Nixa Citizen of the Year: Nicholas Gerdes
Nixa Citizen of the Year: Nicholas Gerdes
April 2, 2024
As Mayor, it gives me great pleasure to present the Citizen of the Year award to someone who has tirelessly worked to make Nixa a better place for all of us.
Today, we celebrate Nicholas Gerdes, a man whose commitment to our veterans and our community has been nothing short of extraordinary. As the commander of American Legion Post #434, Nicholas has been a beacon of hope and support for our veterans, advocating tirelessly to ensure that they receive the care and recognition they deserve.
Mr. Gerdes has gone above and beyond in his efforts to secure additional revenue sources for the American Legion, ensuring that they can continue their vital work in supporting our veterans. His dedication to welcoming our veterans’ home from the Honor Flight and his involvement in the Hero Run 5K, which raises funds for scholarships for military families, truly exemplifies his selflessness and generosity of spirit.
But Mr. Gerdes’ contributions to our community don’t stop there. As a substitute teacher at Nixa High School and Nixa Junior High, he imparts knowledge and wisdom to our students, shaping the minds of tomorrow. He’s also deeply involved in community events like the Nixa Christmas Parade, spreading joy and cheer wherever he goes.
Mr. Gerdes is more than just a volunteer; he’s a pillar of strength and compassion in our community. His willingness to lend a helping hand, his unwavering dedication to service, and his genuine kindness serve as an inspiration to us all.
