Expect Road Construction in Nixa
Expect Road Construction in Nixa
July 13, 2023
The City of Nixa just cut the ribbon on the new extension of Truman Blvd which now fully replaces what used to be known as Norton Rd. in south Nixa.
However, several other major road projects in Nixa are either underway, soon to begin, or being planned for the future.
To help you keep them all straight, here’s a roundup of major road projects in Nixa and what the current status is of each:
Study for future extension of FF (West Bypass in Springfield) south into Christian County to connect with Rt. 14
The Ozarks Transportation Organization (OTO) is studying the impact of this potential future project. They are seeking input from Nixa residents and anyone who would be impacted by the addition of another major north-south connection from Nixa to Springfield to determine which alignment they would then add to the OTO Major Thoroughfare plan. No construction anticipated in next few years.
A public meeting to discuss alignment of this potential project will be held at Nixa City Hall on July 18th from 4pm-7pm.
If you are unable to attend this meeting, you will be able to submit comments through the project website.
CC intersection with Main Street and Main Street widening between CC and Tracker Rd.
MoDOT has scheduled construction of this project to begin in summer of 2024. MoDOT’s improvements to create a roundabout intersection at Main and CC will tie into improvements funded by the City of Nixa to add a center turn lane and sidewalk on Main Street between the intersections with CC and Tracker Rd.
A public meeting to learn about the project, ask questions, and review exhibits will be held at Nixa City Hall on July 25th from 4:30pm-6pm.
Rt. 14 widening to 5 lanes east of 160
This MoDOT project is still under construction. Rt. 14 (Mt. Vernon Street) between Fort St. and Tiffany Blvd. is being widened from 3 lanes to 5 lanes, along with installation of new sidewalks.

160 intersections with CC and AA
This MoDOT project is located outside city limits, but impacts two of the high-traffic intersections which most Nixa residents use on a daily basis to get to and from Springfield. Construction has begun and is scheduled to complete in 2024.
Northview Intersection Improvements at Old Wilderness and Gregg
This Nixa Street Department project is a combination of two projects on Northview Street. One is the expansion of the roundabout at the intersection with Gregg Road, making it larger. The other is the widening of Northview between Tractor Supply to just west of the intersection with Old Wilderness Rd, which will include new intersection and turn lanes to Old Wilderness. Also, the sidewalk will be extended along Northview to connect to sidewalk along Old Wilderness.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed by November 2023.
North Street improvements
The City of Nixa is nearing completion of plans for how we would like to improve North Street once funding is available. The goal would be to improve safety for traffic and pedestrians along North Street between McCauley Park and Cheyenne. No potential funding source for construction has been identified for this project. No construction anticipated in the next few years.
Main Street widening from Rt. 14 to North Street
The City of Nixa is beginning to plan for eventual improvements to widen Main Street (adding a center turn lane along with sidewalks on both sides of the street) between Rt. 14 and North Street. Planning & design was funded through a grant, but no funding source for construction has been identified for this project. No construction anticipated in the next few years.
