Letter from the Mayor: October 2024

As we enter the final quarter of the year, I want to take a moment to update you on a critical process currently underway: the development of the 2025 city budget. This budget is essential to ensure our city can continue to grow and thrive while providing the services and improvements that make Nixa such a great place to live.

City staff has been working diligently to complete the first draft of the 2025 budget, which was recently presented at the City Council budget workshop. During that meeting, the City Council and I reviewed the draft, offering recommendations based on input from the community. I was very pleased with the input from the City Council, and it shows that they work hard to listen to their constituents. Together, we prioritized a variety of projects aimed at improving different aspects of our city.

The next step is for city staff to incorporate these recommendations into a revised budget. This updated draft will then be presented at an upcoming City Council meeting, where the process of refinement will continue. This cycle will repeat until we have a budget that aligns with the needs and goals of our community. The entire process will take the remainder of the year to complete, and the final vote on the 2025 budget is planned for the last City Council meeting of the year.

Transparency is a core value of our city, and we have always made our financials easily accessible. The city’s financial reports are available on the City of Nixa website, but I understand that it’s not common for residents to seek out that information. That’s why I plan to provide a summary review of the 2025 budget in January, so every citizen can easily access the key details that matter most to them.

I want to thank our city staff for their hard work and dedication during this important process and express my appreciation for the input we’ve received from the community. Your voice matters, and it’s helping to shape the future of Nixa.
