The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) worked to widen Rt. 14 (Mt. Vernon St.) to five lanes.
In August 2021, MoDOT completed the widening of Rt. 14 to five lanes west of Hwy 160. Recently, MoDOT finished the process of widening the side east of 160.
The City of Nixa entered into a cost-share to pay for the addition of sidewalk along the south side of Rt. 14, but the widening of the road is a MoDOT project.

Project Complete
Construction crews have finished with the roadway widening project and traffic is flowing through five open lanes. This project is now complete.

Traffic Now Flowing Through Five Open Lanes; Nearing Completion
We’re excited that the expansion of Rt. 14 to five lanes is nearing completion and traffic is now flowing through five open lanes, but please continue to be careful driving through the area as construction crews are still on site wrapping up on the final items on the project including sidewalks, fences, and striping.

Concrete Work Almost Complete
Most of the concrete work has been completed. Asphalt is being applied. Now focusing on the new signals and intersection work at Ridgecrest.

MoDOT will be closing Smalley St. near the Route 14 intersection on Monday, September 18th from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

MoDOT Rt. 14 Nighttime Lane Closures
Where:Â Missouri Route 14 (Mt. Vernon Street/Jackson Road) nighttime lane Closures between Eastwood Drive and Ridgecrest Road in Nixa
When: 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Tuesday – Thursday, September 12-14
What: Contractor crews replacing a pipe that crosses Route 14 as part of the Missouri Route 14 Widening project in Nixa. One lane of traffic will stay open at all times on Route 14 as traffic is directed by flaggers on Route 14 and Ridgecrest Road.
Traffic Impacts:
- Missouri Route 14 (Mt. Vernon Street/Jackson Road) nighttime lane Closures between Eastwood Drive and Ridgecrest Road in Nixa
- Route 14 Open
- Drivers will encounter flaggers directing them through the work zone
- Crews and equipment close to traffic in areas
- Drivers urged to find alternate routes. No signed detours are planned.

Street Closures & Completion Deadline Extended
Beginning June 6th, Missouri St. & Market St. will be closed north of Hwy 14. This closure is scheduled to last from 7 a.m. June 6th for approximately five days. The purpose of this closure is to replace the approaches to Hwy 14.
This widening project is now anticipated to be complete by Summer 2024.
